Today's music is killing youth

I frequent Amazon.com for music and products and lately I've been looking at the reviews by a ton of people. I must tell you that the reviews that I see for some of the classics of all time are completely absurd. I think today's music has gotten so bad that people are growing up with what they think are classics! Someone had the nerve to say Led Zeppellin's IV was outdated and crap! WTF! Sure it may be old but you people need to appreciate where your modern day music came from. Today's listeners just don't appreciate what "good" really is. The music industry has done it to themselves for releasing so much crap that they've killed America's ears. I am not just sticking up for Zeppellin because I am a fan. I listen to tons of music and yes I did grow up during the grunge era and may be jaded towards that style but I am such a music connoisseur that I've learned to appreciate music as art. I like to take it for what it's worth and how the artist wrote it. I understand there is definitely a lot of junk out there and that's the whole point of this thread. It's getting harder and harder to find good stuff so you need to take a step back and take a look at what good music was and still is.

First CD ever purchased and listened to?

In the spirit of the blog, what better way to start off with a topic I've been thinking about for awhile. To give you a little bit of background, I've been collecting CD's for 20 years now. I've joined CD clubs to get a lot of my collection back when they were an option. I also worked at the music department at Circuit City back when I was in college so that helped grow my collection. I spent a ton of money on CD's and I still do. I don't even want to calculate how much income I've spent on music but its all been worth it no matter.

I've moved mostly to digital now purely because of the ease of use and portability. When I'm at work now I bust out my 30gb Creative Zen player that is compatible with the Yahoo Music Service and I am also able to cart around a good chunk of my CD collection as well.

The other day when I was cruising through some code at work I queued up a rockin' CD; Van Halen - OU812, and I immediately thought about this post. This was the first CD I ever purchased and played back in 1987. This CD rules. I don't care if people rip me to shreds but I really much prefer Sammy Hagar over David Lee Roth. Call me lame, call it Van Hagar, don't even acknowledge it exists but thats your loss. I'll blog about this later.

I hadn't heard this CD in awhile and after playing it it reminded me how excited I was when I got it in the mail. I joined BMG Music Service a few months before Christmas of 1987 because I knew I was getting my first CD player. I kept daydreaming about how it would sound the first time I was going to play this CD. I popped on "When It's Love" because I was trying to learn this on the keyboard and it was the single out at the time. It was like a whole other world from tape. CD it still my preferred listening medium. I love mp3's for the shear portability but anyone who thinks 128kbp is CD quality oughtta have their ears checked. Not to stray off this topic, again this is another blog.

So I wanted to start a discussion because I am sure there are a ton of die-hard music fans out there like me who have the same fond memories of their first CD ever purchased and played. I'd like to hear some stories about the experience.

Introduction

Just a quick first post to say what's up to everyone. I am going to try this personal blog thing to see how it goes. I've decided to call it Note Patterns because thats basically what this will be! To make it simple, I am going to be posting all about music. Music is a big part of my life and I couldn't get by without it. Listening at work, singing at church, writing, recording, you name it! If you aren't into music, you are missing out. If your kids aren't into music and they are growing up, get them an instrument, enroll them in chorus. They will thank you later on. Trust me.
